Lantern Festival 2022

Lantern Festival, also called Yuan Xiao Festival, honours deceased ancestors on the 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar. The holiday marks the first full moon of the new lunar year and the end of the Chinese New Year. During the festival, small glutinous rice balls filled with fruits and nuts, called tangyuan, are eaten and houses are decorated with colourful lanterns. The round shape of the balls symbolizes wholeness and unity within the family.

Following this tradition German Centre Shanghai offered tasty tangyuan filled with sesame or peanuts paste to the tenants and invited several experts of Chinese traditional activities. Taiji Masters of Fu’s Yang-Style school and our GC Taiji class have also presented special performances. We wish everybody 元宵节快乐, a happy Lantern Festival.
