A walk through Berlin’s Tiergarten and Guanxi’s landscape at the German Centre Shanghai

On May 15, the German Centre Shanghai welcomed Berlin-based artist Peter Lindenberg for the opening of his exhibition “Alltogether.”

The evening opened with a brief welcome by Peter Hergemöller, who introduced the event on behalf of the German Centre Shanghai. The focus of the night, however, was firmly on artist Peter Lindenberg, whose presence and personal story shaped the atmosphere of the exhibition.

Lindenberg shared insights into his artistic journey — from painting en plein air in Berlin’s Tiergarten to his recent residency in Guangxi, China, which inspired many of the works on display. His reflections offered a compelling glimpse into how landscape can become emotion, memory, and cultural connection — resonating deeply with the diverse audience of around 60 guests from the Chinese, German, and international business community.

The exhibition created a contemplative space where nature, art, and identity met — echoing the role of the German Centre as a home away from home.

Guests enjoyed the opportunity to speak with the artist and explore the paintings during an informal reception that followed.

A heartfelt thank you to Peter Lindenberg for bringing his art — and a piece of Germany — to Shanghai.
