From Taicang via Bavaria and Hamburg to Düsseldorf: The 9th China-Germany Friendship Cup is coming to North Rhine-Westphalia!

On 26 September 2026, the German-Chinese table tennis community will come together in Düsseldorf for the 9th Taicang “China-Germany Friendship Cup” International Table Tennis Tournament.

After six tournaments in Taicang, one tournament in Bavaria, and the successful edition in Hamburg, the Friendship Cup is now opening its next chapter in Germany.

Spectators can look forward to top-class table tennis featuring top players and promising young talents from Germany and China – and this year also a strong women’s team.

But the Friendship Cup is about more than points, sets and victories. Since its launch in 2016, the tournament has brought together people from sports, business and society, creating opportunities for exchange between Germany and China – both on and off the table.

What began as an amateur friendship tournament organised by the German Centre Shanghai and the city of Taicang has developed into an established platform for sporting competition, cultural exchange and German-Chinese cooperation.

Taicang itself is a prime example of these close ties. Located in Jiangsu Province, just outside Shanghai, the city is now home to more than 500 German companies and has been an important hub for German-Chinese economic relations for decades.

This year’s tournament is jointly organised by the Table Tennis Association of North Rhine-Westphalia, Borussia Düsseldorf, the German Centre Shanghai, and the Taicang Bureau of Culture, Sports, Radio, Television and Tourism.
